The Savelli Torlonia Castle is a defensive structure located in Palombara Sabina in Rome.
In the sublacense register it is mentioned in a document of 1064.
The original nucleus was probably built by the Ottaviani, a branch of the Crescenzi: it had a square plan and was about one hectare wide.
After this change of ownership, between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries there are numerous alterations and extensions, in particular around the medieval watchtower, while the walkway of the Muro del Soccorso, a fortified walkway, will undergo drastic changes in the second half of the fifteenth century.
In 1310 the castle became the seat of a court for the judgment of the Templars.
In the sixteenth century, Troilo Savelli had the castle rebuilt, reinforcing it and frescoing the interior rooms and the chapel.
Finally, from the seventeenth century to the mid-twentieth century, it continued to change owners, until in 1971 it was sold to the Municipality of Palombara.
