Museum of Cinema and Miniatures

The Cinémathèque Française is responsible for the conservation and exhibition of a large part of the world's film heritage. It houses over 40,000 films and objects from the world of cinema.

In 1935 a director and a film collector created a small cinema club, the Cercle du Cinéma. The following year, the Cinémathèque Française was born with the aim of conserving, restoring and showing cinematographic films. The Cinémathèque also collected documents and various objects, such as cameras, signs, photographs, costumes and sets.

The Cinémathèque changed its location for logistical needs of the screening room, which in 1955 could already accommodate 260 spectators. In 2005 the headquarters was moved to the current postmodern building, where thanks to private donations, it continues to carry out its business regularly.

Various types of objects are exhibited in the film library, such as antique cameras, optical devices, costumes and sets.

You can also see some scenes from the first films, as well as relive the birth of cinema thanks to the magic lanterns of the seventeenth century.

The Cinémathèque Française is a small, uninteresting, expensive and far from the center museum. Even if it had been free and was located in the Île de la Cité it would not be worth visiting.

The museum is located near the Bercy Park and in its vicinity is the Bercy Village, a shopping center where restaurants and bars abound.
