Paestum, Latin name of the Paistom term with which it was defined after its conquest by the Lucanians, is an ancient city of Magna Graecia called by the founders Poseidonia in honor of Poseidon, but very devoted to Hera and Athena.
Going up a beautiful area of ​​Campania, we find the ancient city of Paestum. Inhabited since prehistoric times, the city has undergone various changes due to the three main civilizations that settled there: the Greek, the Lucan and the Roman.
This archaeological site is very important due to the excellent preservation of its urban structure which has walls, various temples (always in Doric style) dedicated to Hera and Athena, a swimming pool, an amphitheater, the forum area and the necropolis.
The extension of its inhabited area is still well recognizable today, enclosed by its Greek walls, as modified in the Lucanian and Roman periods. In the past it was also known as Pesto.
HOURS: The Museum is open from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm (issue of the last entrance ticket at 6:50 pm).
1st and 3rd Monday of the month from 8:30 am to 1:40 pm (issue of the last admission ticket at 1:00 pm)

it is open every day from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm (issue of the last admission ticket at 18.50); after sunset the visit is limited to the area of ​​the southern Sanctuary (temple of Neptune and Basilica).
