Pompeii is an Italian town in the metropolitan city of Naples, in Campania.
Starting from the end of the 18th century, the remains of the ancient Roman city have been brought to light.
Archaeological investigations have returned not only paintings, mosaics, furnishings and buildings, but have made it possible to reconstruct the lifestyle in Roman times.
The Pompeian archaeological site, together with those of Herculaneum and Oplonti, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997.
