The Madonna delle Vergini is a rock church located in the Murgia Materana, on the opposite side of the Gravina stream from the Sassi of Matera.
The church is easily reachable from the Appia with a short detour.
There is no certain information about its origin, but it is the only rock church still officiated, with the celebrations for the virgin taking place on the last Sunday of May.
