The Cannaregio canal is one of the most important waterways in Venice. It connects the Grand Canal with the north-western area of ​​the Cannaregio district, between the foundations of San Giobbe and the foundations of Sacca San Girolamo.
The canal is from a minimum of 22 meters wide at the Ponte delle Guglie to a maximum of 27 meters at the Ca 'Foscari University of Venice campus and is almost 800 meters long. Important are the two bridges that cross the canal, among the most characteristic and largest in the city: the Guglie bridge, dating back to the 16th century, is the only one adorned with pinnacles, and the Three Arches bridge, the only example still existing in Venice multi-arched bridge.
A statue representing San Giovanni Nepomuceno, by Morlaiter, is present on the west bank of the Cannaregio canal at the entrance to the Grand Canal. The two foundations that stretch along the sides of the canal show many facades of architectural value: above all, Palazzo Labia, located at the intersection with the Grand Canal; but noteworthy are Palazzo Priuli Venier Manfrin, Palazzo Savorgnan, Palazzo Bonfadini Vivante, Palazzo Testa, Palazzo Surian Bellotto.
In addition to the buildings, the churches that stand along the canal should be mentioned: Santa Maria dei Penitenti and its convent complex, San Giobbe (which faces the canal on the left) and San Geremia (with one of its two facades).
