Carhenge

Carhenge is a replica of Stonehenge in England, located near the city of Alliance, Nebraska, in the United States' High Plains region. Instead of being built with large stones, as in the case of the original Stonehenge, Carhenge is made up of vintage American cars, all covered with gray spray paint. Built by Jim Reinders, it was dedicated to the summer solstice of June 1987. In 2006, a visitor center was built to serve the site.

Carhenge consists of 38 cars arranged in a circle of approximately 96 feet (29 m) in diameter. Some are held straight in wells 5 feet (1.5 m) deep, the ends of the trunk down, and the arches were formed by welding cars on top of the support models. The stone heel is a 1962 Cadillac. Three cars were buried in Carhenge with a sign saying "Three bones of foreign machines lie here, which serve our purpose while Detroit slept, now Detroit is awake and America is fantastic. ".

Carhenge replicates the current state of dilapidation of Stonehenge, rather than the original stone circle erected between 2500 BC. and 2000 BC In addition to the Stonehenge replica, the Carhenge site includes several other works of art created by cars covered with various colors of spray paint.
