The ancient village of Serravalle develops in the northern part of the Municipality of Vittorio Veneto and represents, with the castle, the square and its Renaissance palaces, one of the jewels of the Venetian panorama. Since Roman times, Serravalle and Castrum have played a role of strategic importance, occupying a key position on the road of communication with Cadore and Alemagna. The village also remained under the Serenissima a fundamental defensive point of the hinterland, but over time it also became one of the most important municipalities, for the lively commercial activity and for the production of wool and swords internationally renowned.
The current Castrum was built by the Da Camino family in the twelfth century, on the remains of the Roman settlement of the first century BC. With its wide esplanade surrounded by walls, the Castle remained the main fulcrum around the Middle Ages around which the urban center of Serravalle developed. Under the Republic of Venice, it then became the place of residence of the Podestà, until the end of the 18th century and of the Serenissima Republic.
Since 2005 the association "Amici del Castrum" has made it a point of reference on the cultural map of Veneto, organizing the Serravalle Festival - Teatro al Castello inside the garden in the summer.
In addition, in one of its towers, the Serravalle Castle now also houses the Castrum Bed and Breakfast, a classy environment where the rooms (all with private bathroom) and the suite are furnished with antique family furniture and equipped with every comfort beyond that of a panoramic and silent isolation.
