Civic Art Gallery of the Francesco Cilea Theater

The Civic Art Gallery was actually born inside the ancient city museum, inaugurated on June 18, 1882 and is based at the Francesco Cilea Theater.

Among the works from the National Museum there are two paintings on wood, detached parts of the predella of two different polyptychs, works by Antonello da Messina and executed between 1460 and 1465.

Wooden tablets of the '400 and modern sculptures and canvases in a municipal theater of the' 20s with stucco decorations.

The prestigious collection exhibits paintings and sculptures of extreme interest, acquired by the ancient city museum thanks to bequests, donations and purchases.

Requested to exhibit the collections owned by the Municipality scattered in other museums and offices (including the works kept at the National Museum of Magna Graecia, at Palazzo San Giorgio and at the Pietro De Nava Library), the Pinacoteca was inaugurated by the president of the Camera Gianfranco Fini on May 26, 2008.

The restoration and museum set-up project was curated by Prof. Arch. Fabio Mariano.
