The Sydney Harbor Bridge is a Sydney arch bridge that connects the CBD (Central Business District) with the northern area of the city, North Shore, crossing the Sydney Bay, formed by the mouth of the Parramatta River. It is passable by the subway, vehicular traffic and pedestrians.
The construction of the metal arch bridge in a reticular structure dates back to the late 1920s. Completed in 1932, it has a light of 503 m and an arrow of 107 m. It includes 4 railway tracks and a 17 m wide carriageway, whose testing required the use of 72 locomotives with a total weight of 7000 kN.
Its structure was a source of inspiration for the Tyne Bridge project in Newcastle upon Tyne, whose construction lasted from 1925 to 1928. It can be climbed, and indeed many tourists are attracted by this adventure that can last more than three hours.
