Chichén Itzá is an important Mayan archaeological complex located in Mexico, in the north of the Yucatán peninsula. The ruins, which extend over an area of 3 km², belonged to a large city that was one of the most important centers of the region around the epiclassic period of the Mayan civilization, between the sixth and the eleventh century.
The site includes numerous buildings, representative of different architectural styles; among the most famous we can indicate the pyramid of Kukulkan (known as El Castillo), the astronomical observatory (the Caracol) and the Temple of the warriors.
