Cesena is an Italian town in the province of Forlì-Cesena, in Emilia-Romagna, and the bishopric of the diocese of Cesena-Sarsina.
The historic center of Cesena, including numerous churches and palaces of considerable historical, artistic and cultural interest, is bordered by the walls, whose circle has been preserved almost intact, and by various towers and gates at the foot of the ancient Malatesta Fortress.
Built at the behest of Malatesta Novello in the mid-fifteenth century, in Cesena there is the Malatesta Library, the first European civic library and the only example of a humanistic monastic library perfectly preserved in the building, in the furnishings and in the library equipment.
UNESCO recognized the cultural importance of the Malatesta by inserting it, first in Italy, in the register of the Memory of the world.
A leading city in the European fruit and vegetable market, Cesena is an important communication hub, thanks to the intersection between the A14 Bologna-Taranto motorway and the state road 3 bis Tiberina (up to Cesena stretch of the E45) Terni-Ravenna.
The city is also home to several university faculties aggregated on the Cesena Campus, which is part of the University of Bologna.
«And the one where Savio bathes her side, just as she is between the plain and the mountain, between tyranny she lives and has been free. "
