From 1978 to 1982 the Municipal Administration, in competition with the Istituto Autonomo Case Popolari and the Lazio Region, oversaw the restoration of a group of houses it owned located on via di S. Paolo alla Regola, between the church of SS. Trinità dei Pellegrini and via del Conservatorio.
It is a group of buildings of 4-5 floors in height, with a prevalent seventeenth-century appearance on the outside, centered around the sixteenth-century Palazzo Specchi which overlooks the main street from a short open space.
The restoration unexpectedly revealed how the buildings maintained much older structures in all their monumentality, which still form the body of the whole system.
In particular, Roman age structures are preserved for four floors in height, two below the ground and two above, and these formed the basis of a powerful and complex medieval restructuring, which raised the buildings almost up to the current situation .
