Colossus of Rhodes

The Colossus of Rhodes was a huge bronze statue of the sun god Helios, probably located in the port of Rhodes in Greece in the 3rd century BC. It is one of the so-called seven wonders of the ancient world.

According to contemporary studies, the colossus would not have been found at the entrance to the port, as an entrance gate for ships, but was placed on a pillar inside what is known as the old city or acropolis of Rhodes (which became the city of knights of Malta), in an elevated position on the hill immediately in front of the port, so that it served as a lighthouse.
