Castel Baradello stands on the hill of the same name (430 m a.s.l.) overlooking the city of Como, closing the valley on the south-west side.
From the hill you can enjoy a panorama that sweeps from the lake to the city, from the peaks of the Alps to the Po valley up to the Apennines: its massive square-based tower is clearly visible for those arriving in Como.
The etymological origin of the toponym Baradello can be traced back to the Indo-European root bar which means elevated place.
