Nara Dreamland

Nara Dreamland is an amusement park built in 1961 as an imitation of the original California Disneyland.

Surprisingly, it survived long after Tokyo Disneyland opened in 1983 but closed for good in 2006 and is now one of the spookiest theme parks in the world.

Choked with weeds, its famous Disney princess-style castle is overcome by decay and neglect.

And to think that it all started when the founder of Nara Dreamland, Kunizo Matsuo, president of the Matsuo Entertainment Company, visited Disneyland park in Anaheim, near Los Angeles in 1955, and was so impressed that he wanted to create a theme park Disney also in his country, Japan.
