On Wednesday, May 16, 2012, the completion of the China Central Television Tower in Beijing was announced, built by the Dutch architecture firm OMA, after a construction period that lasted eight long years.
The building, which with its 473,000 square meters represents the largest work designed by OMA in the Chinese territory, consists of two large inverted L-shaped bodies that merge at right angles into a 75-meter long structure.
The project, supervised by Rem Koolhaas and Ole Scheeren, was conceived to become an important media center among the largest in the world, as well as a new icon of vertical architecture: the structure will include recording studios, editing rooms, production centers, offices, while the area adjacent to the main building will house a hotel, a theater and exhibition spaces.
