Lake of Carezza

In Val d'Ega, 6 km away from Nova Levante, there is an alpine lake with emerald water which, thanks to the colors reflected in the sunlight, is also called "Rainbow Lake". But that's not the only explanation for its name.

A legend tells that a wonderful little mermaid lived in the depths of the lake, with which the magician Masarè fell in love. To win his love, the witch Lanwerda advised the magician to disguise himself as a jewelry seller and to create with them a rainbow from the Catinaccio to the Latemar.

The magician liked the idea and made the rainbow shine in its magnificent colors. But he forgot to dress up. The little mermaid saw him then from that moment on he submerged forever in the lake and never showed up again. The wizard was so enraged, that he threw the jewels and pieces of the rainbow into the lake.

And precisely for this reason, even today Lake Carezza (Karer See) magically shines in all the colors of the rainbow. The lake has no visible tributaries, but is fed by underground springs that bring water from the peaks of the Latemar.
