Riga Motor Museum

Riga Motor Museum s the largest antique vehicle museum in the Baltic states, located in Riga, Latvia. The museum is a state agency operating under the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia.

Since 1992, the museum is a member of the International Association of Transport and Communication Museums (IATM - ICOM), since 1994 a member of the Latvian Association of Museums, since 2002 - a member of the Latvian Association for the Development and Education of transport.

The museum is located at 6 Sergeja Eizenšteina Street in the Mežciems district of Riga. The museum also houses a café and a sports club.

The museum consists of three floors, each with a different theme. The ground floor begins with the history of the automobile, then goes through the history of automobiles at the beginning of the 20th century and the production of automobiles in Latvia.

The first floor focuses on motorsports, cars of cultural importance and the Soviet automobile industry, including a collection of Soviet state cars used to transport Soviet leaders in a safe and luxurious manner. The basement contains a range of trucks and special purpose vehicles, including fire trucks, ambulances and other special vehicles.

One of the most significant exhibits in the museum is a replica of the 1938 Type C / D Auto Union racing car. The original car was saved from being cut into scrap by Viktors Kulbergs, president of the Antique Automobile Club of Latvia, but then it was exchanged for a replica by Crostwaite & Gardiner and Roach Manufacturing after negotiations with Audi AG in 1995. The original 1938 car can now be seen in Audi's museum cabinet in Ingolstadt.

The museum was founded in 1989 on the initiative of the Latvia Antique Automobile Club (AAK). The building was designed by the architect Latgyprogorstroy Viktors Valgums. It has been a state museum since 1992.

In 2013 the museum was closed for reconstruction work. All vehicles were moved to a temporary museum in Rāmava. On 2 July 2016 the museum was opened after reconstruction for all.
