The Scuola Grande di San Teodoro was established in 1258 in Venice and was subsequently recognized as the "Scuola Grande" in 1552.
The Palace of San Teodoro or more precisely the Great School of San Teodoro, was dedicated to the first patron saint of Venice and was built in front of the church starting from 1580 on commission from the Confraternity made up of merchants and artisans who were guests at that time. at the Church of San Salvador.
Simone Sorella's initial project was later expanded by Francesco and Tommaso Contin. The chapter hall was designed and built by Baldassarre Longhena and further embellished with paintings dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries by Vassilacchi, Jacopo Palma the younger, Balestra, Bassano.
Over the years, the Palazzo was used for different uses, it was a public dormitory, and then it was the seat of the political archive, the commercial museum and the cinema. In 1999 I Musici Veneziani began to hold their own concert seasons within the Scuola Grande and it became the most prestigious concert hall in Venice.
Palazzo San Teodoro is currently one of the most important and well-known palaces among the splendid Venetian palaces.
