The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul (MMCA) is a contemporary art museum with the main museum in Gwacheon and three branches each in Deoksugung, Seoul and Cheongju.
The museum was first established in 1969 as the country's only national art museum that houses Korea's modern and contemporary art and international art from different time periods.
The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, was designed taking into account the geographical conditions and historical context making use of the characteristics of the museum's architecture, and aims to become an "intangible art museum", "a museum in the daily life ", and an" ecological art museum ".
The buildings are arranged around six courtyards designed to organically connect the building's interior and exterior and can be used for multi-layered purposes, raising a new topic on establishing the relationship between the museum and its visitors, presenting a new possibility future-oriented art museum in the 21st century.
