Bran Castle

Bran Castle (in Romanian Castelul Bran, IPA: [kasˈtelul ˈbran]) is a Romanian castle built in medieval and Gothic style. It is located in the municipality of Bran (near Brașov) and stands on the ancient border between Transylvania and Wallachia.

A dream castle, with its red roofs, the rich vegetation that surrounds it and a postcard landscape to surround it, but, above all, an aura of mystery and dark shades that feed its myth. This medieval fortress between Wallachia and Transylvania (Romania) is one of the most visited places in the country, due to the legend linked to the figure of Count Dracula.

In reality, this historical figure had his residence in another fortress, but this has not stopped the many tourists who continue to come here and call it "Dracula's Castle". So, don't panic and lose yourself in the medieval charm of Bran.

Today the castle is home to a museum dedicated to the history of Transylvania and the collections of the royal family. It is one of the most famous attractions in Romania.

The origin of the fortress dates back to 1211, the year in which Andrew II of Hungary assigned a strategic location to the order of the Teutonic Knights. First, a wooden construction was erected on the top of a rocky peak to guard the ancient limes between Wallachia and Transylvania. The passage for centuries allowed the transit of merchants and the exchange of goods, however the structure was abandoned in 1226.
