The Val d'Orcia is a large countryside located in Tuscany, in the province of Siena, north and east of Mount Amiata and close to the border with Umbria.

Characteristic tree the cypress, typical foods and wines the Pici, the salami of Cinta Senese, the Pecorino di Pienza, the Brunello di Montalcino and the new denomination of the DOC Orcia wine.
The valley is also an important natural, artistic and cultural park, and since 2 July 2004 it has been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, for the excellent state of conservation of the landscape, as well as produced by an intelligent work of anthropization , which had a significant influence on many Renaissance artists.
The commission thus justified the inclusion in the list:
«Criterion (iv): the Val d'Orcia is an exceptional example of how the natural landscape was redesigned in the Renaissance period to reflect the ideals of good governance and to create an aesthetically pleasing image;
Criterion (vi): the landscape of the Val d'Orcia was celebrated by the painters of the Sienese School, which flourished during the Renaissance. The images of the Val d'Orcia and in particular the reproductions of its landscapes, which depict people living in harmony with nature, have become icons of the Renaissance and have profoundly influenced the way of thinking about the landscape in future years.
