The Catacomb of Priscilla, known in all the ancient topographical and liturgical documents, opens on the Via Salaria in Rome with entrance to the cloister of the ancient convent of the Benedictine Sisters of Priscilla.
Due to the number of martyrs buried here, this cemetery was called the "queen catacumbarum".
Excavated between the 2nd and 5th centuries, it begins with pre-existing hypogeal environments, the main ones being a sandstone, a "cryptoporticus" and the hypogeum with the tombs of the Acilii Glabrioni.
To this family belongs a noblewoman named Priscilla who, in all probability, was the donor of the land that started the life of our catacombs.
This would be the reason why today, and at least since the 4th century, the cemetery is dedicated to her name and to her memory.
