The Medici Chapels are two structures of the Basilica of San Lorenzo, Florence, Italy, dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries, and built as extensions of Brunelleschi's 15th century church, with the purpose of celebrating the Medici family, patrons of the church and the Grand Dukes of Tuscany.
The New Sacristy ("New Sacristy") was designed by Michelangelo.
The largest Cappella dei Principi ("Cappella dei Principi"), although proposed in the 16th century, was only begun at the beginning of the 17th century, its project was a collaboration between the family and the architects.
These are not to be confused with the Magi Chapel in Palazzo Medici Riccardi, then the main house of the Medici.
It houses a famous cycle of frescoes by Benozzo Gozzoli, made around 1459.
