The squero di San Trovaso rises along the homonymous river and dates back to before the seventeenth century.
The squero (ie "shipyard" in Venetian: from the word "squara" which indicates the tool used to build boats) is the classic shipyard where small-sized boats such as gondolas, pupparini, sandoli, s'ciopóni were built and repaired and other boats typical of the Venetian naval tradition.
It is one of the very few squeri still in operation in Venice and stands along the homonymous river and dates back to the seventeenth century.
It is one of the very few squeri still in operation in Venice, even if today only gondolas are produced or repaired there, while in the past the shipbuilding activity also extended to other types of boats.
The building that houses it has the typical shape of mountain houses, an exceptional circumstance for Venice.
The reason is twofold: on one hand both the carpenters "ax masters" and the construction timber came from Cadore, on the other the inclination of the forecourt square and the canopy that partly covers it were useful in case of rain, as well as storage for work tools.
