The National Gallery of Art is located on Constitution Avenue in Washington in the United States; it is one of the largest and most important art museums in the world, which covers, with its collections rich in masterpieces, almost seven hundred years of art history, ranging from European to New World art.
The art gallery in particular is the largest and most complete in the United States and, starting from Byzantine art, reaches the 20th century.
The National Gallery of Art was formed essentially thanks to large private donations, among which those of four great American collectors stand out: Andrew W. Mellon, Samuel H. Kress, Peter Arrell Brown Widener and Chester Dale.
Over time, these were followed by other donations and purchases.
