Archaeological area of Cava d'Ispica - Necropolis and Castle

The Archaeological Park of Cava Ispica is located in the northern part of the homonymous valley whose path, between large and suggestive overhanging gorges, winds for about 14 Km. Along the territories of the municipalities of Modica, Ispica and in a small part in that of Rosolini.

The monumental archaeological evidence, currently visible, can be traced back to excavations in the rock that can be concentrated chronologically in three periods: prehistoric period, late antiquity period, medieval period.

In Cava Ispica there are also the remains of the Church of San Pancrati, one of the oldest churches in the Hyblaean district, dating back to the mid-sixth century. It is a church with three naves with a triconco presbytery, built with megalithic blocks and has a very fascinating underground necropolis.

Continuing along the course of the quarry and currently outside the archaeological area, they follow the group of the Grotte Giardina, Pernamazzone and the so-called Castle.
