The Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican (exact full name: papal major basilica of St. Peter's in the Vatican) is a Catholic basilica of the Vatican City; symbol of the Vatican State, crowned by the monumental Piazza San Pietro.
With the Apostolic Constitution Pastor Bonus of 1988, Pope John Paul II established that "the Factory of St. Peter according to its own laws will continue to take care of everything concerning the Basilica of the Prince of the Apostles both for the preservation and decoration of the building and for the internal discipline of the custodians and pilgrims who enter to visit the temple ".
