The "Antonio Salinas" Regional Archaeological Museum is located in Palermo, Sicily.
It has one of the richest archaeological collections in Italy and evidence of Sicilian history in all its phases, ranging from prehistory to the Middle Ages.
The House of the Fathers of the Congregation of San Filippo Neri, seat of the museum since 1866, was begun at the end of the sixteenth century on a project by the architect Antonio Muttone and the building was completed in the seventeenth century.
The monumental complex also includes the church of Sant'Ignazio and the Oratory of San Filippo Neri.
Inside are preserved the finds and artifacts of the peoples who determined the history of the island: Phoenicians, Punic, Greek, Roman and Byzantine, but also artifacts of other peoples such as the Egyptians and the Etruscans. There is preserved the Stone of Palermo, an important testimony of the history of the Ancient Egyptian Kingdom.
Born in 1814, it was a national museum until 1977, and is dedicated to Antonino Salinas, a famous Palermo archaeologist and numismatist, who directed it.
