The church of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria d'Egitto 'with its monastery is a building of worship located in the historic center of Palermo.
The monumental aggregate is otherwise known locally as the "Church of Santa Caterina delle Donne" together with the fourteenth-century Dominican monastery occupies the area bounded to the north by the Cassaro road (today's Corso Vittorio Emanuele), to the west by Piazza Pretoria where the homonymous square dominates Fontana Pretoria, at noon with Piazza Bellini where it faces the church of Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio, otherwise known as the "Martorana" and the church of San Cataldo.
From 1311 until 2014 it welcomed cloistered nuns of the Dominican order.
Since 2017 it has been open to the public and today it can be visited as a museum of sacred art.
Inside there is the confectionery, where the sweets of various monasteries of Palermo are reproduced according to the ancient recipes of the nuns.
