The Royal Museums of Turin are a Turin museum complex established in 2016, previously known as the Royal Pole.
They include the Royal Palace, the Royal Gardens, the Library and the Royal Armoury, the Galleria Sabauda, the Archaeological Museum, the ground floor of Palazzo Chiablese and the Chapel of the Holy Shroud and from 2021 also the Roman Theater of the ancient Augusta Taurinorum.
In the year of its establishment it was the twenty-second most visited Italian state site.
In 2018 the entire complex, including the exhibitions hosted in the Sale Chiablese.
After two years of restoration, the Roman Theater of ancient Augusta Taurinorum is once again usable by visitors.
The interventions involved the remains of the cavea, the backstage portico and the walls, freed from vegetation and temporary structures as well as cleaned and consolidated where necessary.
Coming to light in 1899 during the enlargement of the Manica Lunga of Palazzo Reale and dating back to the Augustan age, the building was remodeled several times in the 1st century AD. and demolished in the 4th century for the reuse of the material. Equipped with new lighting, even in the evening, and thanks to a reversible floor, it will be able to host events and shows.
The direction of the works is by the architect Filippo Masino of the Royal Museums in collaboration with the Superintendence and is part of the wider project of arrangement of the Royal Gardens and the conservative restoration of the walls that develop inside.
