A park of monuments among the most famous and important in the world.
The Archaeological Park of Neapolis is a natural area full of archaeological finds belonging to several periods of Syracusan history. Due to the quantity and importance of its monuments it is considered one of the most important archaeological areas of Sicily, as well as among the largest in the Mediterranean.
This large archaeological area constitutes the fundamental nucleus of the Archaeological Park of Syracuse.
It includes, in addition to some testimonies of prehistoric times (Bronze Age, facies of Castelluccio, Thapsos and Cassibile), the sector of the ancient city with some public monuments, among the most famous of antiquity such as the Theater, the above area of Nymphaeum, with the Via dei Sepolcri, the area of ​​the Sanctuary of Apollo, the ara of Ierone, the Roman amphitheater, a large area of ​​stone quarries (latomie), a vast necropolis (called Grotticelli) and the Norman church -seva of S. Nicolò.
