Malta

Valletta is the capital city of the state of Malta which is an archipelago in the center of the Mediterranean Sea, located between Sicily and the coast of North Africa.

It was founded in 1566 by the Knights Hospitallers, who gave it the name of their great master Jean de la Valette: precisely it was called, in Latin, Humilissima Civitas Valettae ("The humble city of Valletta"). In Maltese it is known as Il-Belt and The city.

Valletta is "European Capital of Culture" by 2018, along with Leeuwarden.

It is a city famous for its historical sites connected to the various rulers of the island, from the Romans, to the Moors, to the Knights of St. John, to the French and to the English.

Here in the city, but also throughout the island, there are numerous fortresses, megalithic temples and the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum, an underground complex of salt and mortuary chambers that dates back to 4000 BC. about. The clear blue sea that surrounds the Maltese Islands is ideal for scuba diving. Cliffs, caves and wrecks make every dive interesting.
