Villa Arconati, also known as the Castellazzo, is one of the historic villas of the Groane Park, located in Bollate, in the hamlet of Castellazzo di Bollate. It is an example of eighteenth-century Lombard baroque and is a national monument.
The villa is located inside the Groane Park, on a vertex of a large quadrangular garden, next to the courtyards and the church of the agricultural village of Castellazzo. The complex is surrounded by woods, moors and cultivated land for about 200 hectares. At the state road 233 Varesina, between Bollate and Garbagnate, between two feline statues on pedestals and two obelisks, starts the Via dei Leoni, which leads between two rows of white hornbeams to the main entrance gate of the villa.
The Villa is the seat of the Augusto Rancilio Foundation (FAR), a non-profit cultural institution founded in 1983 in memory of the architect Augusto Rancilio, who tragically passed away at the age of 26. Alongside its original purposes of study and research in the fields of Architecture, Design and Urban Planning - with particular attention to young people and their integration into the world of work - FAR today promotes the protection and enhancement of its institutional headquarters, Villa Arconati-FAR in Bollate, a 17th century villa of delight surrounded by greenery on the outskirts of Milan.
