The Town Hall consists of a set of buildings that over the centuries have gradually been united to an older nucleus acquired by the Municipality at the end of the thirteenth century, including, among other things, the home of Accursio, a master of law in the Bologna firm.
It was initially intended to preserve the public grain reserves and to house some municipal offices; since it became the residence of the Elders in 1336, the highest governmental magistracy of the Municipality, it is the seat of the city government.
The Palace houses a chapel with frescoes and an art museum.
