Valle d'Aosta Region

Valle d'Aosta is an Italian region with a special status in north-western Italy, with its capital being Aosta, from which it takes its name. It is part of the Alps-Mediterranean Euroregion.

It is the smallest region of Italy with 3 263 km² of surface and also the least populated one with 125 991 inhabitants, with a completely mountainous territory. With a per capita GDP of € 35 264, it ranks second in the ranking among the regions and autonomous provinces of Italy.

It borders Switzerland to the north (Entremont, Hérens and Visp districts in the canton of Valais), to the west with France (departments of Haute-Savoie and Savoie, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region), to the south and east with Piedmont (metropolitan city of Turin, provinces of Biella and Vercelli).

Valle d'Aosta is a member of the International Association of French-speaking Regions (AIRF - Association internationale des régions francophones)
