Wat Traimit - Temple of the Golden Buddha - Virtual Tour 360°

Wat Traimit, also known as the Temple of the Golden Buddha, is a Buddhist temple in Bangkok, Thailand. It's most famous for housing the world's largest solid gold Buddha statue, Phra Phuttha Maha Suwanna Patimakon.

The statue is a truly impressive sight. It's nearly 3 meters (9.8 ft) tall and weighs a staggering 5.5 tonnes (12,125 lb). The statue is believed to have been created in the Sukhothai Dynasty (1238–1438) and was originally covered in plaster to hide its value from invaders.

The golden Buddha's story is quite fascinating. The plaster was only discovered in 1955 when the statue was being moved. During the move, a crane malfunctioned and the statue fell, breaking off some of the plaster and revealing the gold beneath.

Wat Traimit is a relatively small temple complex compared to other Bangkok temples. However, it's definitely worth a visit to see the Golden Buddha. There's also a museum on the site that tells the story of the statue and the history of Bangkok's Chinatown district.

Here's some additional information for you:

  • Location: Wat Traimit is located in Bangkok's Chinatown district, close to Hualampong Railway Station.
  • Opening Hours: The temple is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • Admission Fee: There is a small admission fee to enter the temple complex.
  • Dress Code: As with all Thai temples, visitors should dress modestly. This means covering shoulders and knees.
