Roverella Palace - Art galleryRoverella Palace is a palace in Rovigo, a majestic testimony to the Renaissance and "Estense" period of the city, which overlooks Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, the main square and ancient and modern heart of the Rovigo capital.
The palace was built starting in 1484 at the behest of Cardinal Bartolomeo Roverella, designed by the architect Biagio Rossetti. The works lasted for about twenty years and the palace was completed only in 1508.
The facade of the building is in Renaissance style, with a rustic ashlar on the ground floor and an order of pilasters on the main floor. The entrance portal is surmounted by a triangular tympanum and a loggia.
The interior of the palace is richly decorated with frescoes, stuccoes and works of art. Among the most important rooms are the Hall of the Giants, frescoed by Giovanni Battista Zelotti, and the Council Hall, where there is the cycle of frescoes with the Stories of Saint Catherine of Alexandria by the Veronese painter Domenico Brusasorzi.
The palace houses the Rovigo Art Gallery, which includes a rich collection of works of art, including paintings by Giovanni Bellini, Tiziano Vecellio, Tintoretto, Paolo Veronese and Jacopo Bassano.
Roverella Palace is one of the most important monuments in the Veneto and is a must-see for anyone visiting Rovigo.
