Headquarters of the Ministry of Culture at the Collegio Romano in Rome

The Roman College is a monumental architectural complex located in the historic center of Rome. It was built in the 16th century by the Society of Jesus and housed one of the most important scientific teaching and research centers in Europe. In 1773, with the suppression of the Society of Jesus, the Roman College passed to the control of the Italian State. In 1975 it became the headquarters of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities (MiBAC).

  • Kircherian Museum: Houses a vast collection of archaeological, ethnographic and scientific finds.
  • Octagonal Hall – an octagonal-shaped hall with a ceiling frescoed by Giovanni Battista Gaulli.
  • National Central Library of Rome: one of the most important libraries in Italy.
  • Astronomical Observatory: one of the oldest astronomical observatories in Europe.
