Aragonese Castle of Venosa or known as Pirro del Balzo Castle is the Castle of Venosa is a historic fortified building in the municipality of the same name in the province of Potenza.
Commonly called Aragonese as it was built by Duke Pirro del Balzo during the period of the Aragonese dynasty, it is located at the southern end of the plateau occupied by the urban extension of the city. Its construction dates back to 1470 at the behest of Duke Pirro del Balzo with a view to a larger fortification project.
It is an imposing building, with a square plan and four cylindrical towers.
The Del Balzo coat of arms, the radiant sun, is visible on the west tower. Inside, in the rooms created in the bases of the towers, the castle houses the "Mario Torelli" National Archaeological Museum of Venosa, which above all preserves the rich testimonies of the Roman colony of Venusia.
