The Museum and Archaeological Area of Naxos are located in the city of Giardini Naxos (Messina), in Sicily, and host important evidence of the ancient Greek colony of Naxos, founded in 735 BC.
The Archaeological Area is located on the hill of Capo Schisò and includes the ruins of the ancient Greek city, including the cyclopean walls, the Greek theater, the agora, the Hellenistic houses district, the necropolis, and the sanctuary of Apollo Archegetes.
The Museum, on the other hand, is located in the nearby city of Giardini Naxos and exhibits a vast collection of objects from the archaeological area, such as sculptures, coins, ceramics, and other artifacts. In particular, the museum houses the famous Kouros of Naxos, a marble statue of a young athlete dating back to the 6th century BC.
The Museum and Archaeological Area of Naxos represent a fundamental stop for anyone who wants to learn about the history of the ancient Greek colony and admire its ruins.
The archaeological site was unearthed only in the 1950s and is now one of the most important archaeological sites in Sicily.
