The fojaroi are nothing more than typical farmhouses whose roof has steep slopes, covered with branches with beech leaves.
These ancient buildings performed several functions at the same time: barn, stable and temporary dwelling for man. They were located between 700 and 1200 meters above sea level and were used from April to November.
The peculiarity of these structures was the roof, made with beech branches collected with the waning moon in August, in a particular vegetative moment that sees the leaves undergo a transformation that makes them waterproof and very resistant to bad weather.
This simple, yet ingenious at the same time technique, made it possible to create a breathable and waterproofing roof that could last several decades. We can define these buildings as authentic masterpieces of engineering and bio-sustainability, perfectly integrated and functional.
Some of them have currently been restored and can be admired by following an itinerary that starts from Seren del Grappa on the northern slope of the massif, taking the valley of the Stizzon torrent.
For those who are in the area, these are buildings that represent a memory, a teaching, a past life lesson not to be forgotten.
