The Basilica dei Santi Quattro Coronati is part of a Christian complex located in the Celio district, on the homonymous hill in Rome. The site still looks like a fortified monastic complex, of modest external appearance but massive wall consistency, and consists of a basilica and a series of other sacred and residential spaces (crypt, courtyards, monastery, ancient cardinal's palace). Since the 4th century, it has occupied the sites of a rich late antique aristocratic residence which was located along the ancient via Tuscolana (in the path corresponding to the current via dei Santi Quattro) and was repeatedly and radically modified over the centuries.
