Dueville is an Italian town in the province of Vicenza in Veneto.
The origin of the name "Dueville" is not yet ascertained with certainty, but it probably refers to the union of two villages that were in the territory (perhaps one native and one Lombard), giving life to a larger village, or to the presence of many villas in the surrounding area. Another controversial etymology has it that the name derives from the Latin Villa de duabus villis that is a village formed by the union of two residential areas, since the territory could be understood as a meeting point between two Roman centuriations (Thiene and Marostica).
The word villa began to be used at the end of the Middle Ages, when the Latin word vicus (village) was replaced. Therefore villa and vicus indicate an agglomeration of houses that form a residential nucleus; today the word country is used for the same concept. Until only a century ago, the term villico meant the inhabitant of the vicus / villa / country town, therefore usually a farmer, who could also be any worker.
