Olivetti Shop in San Marco Square

The Olivetti shop was designed in 1958 by the architect Carlo Scarpa on behalf of Adriano Olivetti.

Overcoming the small size of the environment, located in the Procuratie Vecchie in San Marco Square in Venice, Scarpa creates a work of great breadth and transparency.

Thanks to the precise control of Scarpa's design, architectural modernity and Venetian tradition coexist with great harmony in the shop, giving life to "one of the clearest masterpieces of contemporary architecture", as defined by the critic Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti.

After having lost its original function for years, on 20 April 2011 the shop was reopened after a careful philological restoration, which restored its original colors, furnishings and collection of Olivetti machines.

The Assicurazioni Generali, which maintain its ownership, have entrusted it to the Fondo Ambiente Italiano, which, after having taken care of its restoration, takes care of its maintenance and ensures its use by the public.

There is the elegant intelligence of the great architect Carlo Scarpa behind this true masterpiece of twentieth century architecture which, after years of neglect, has reopened its spaces designed down to the smallest detail and created by skilled craftsmen.
