The Observatory of astrophysics and space science (OAS) of Bologna was born on January 1, 2018 from the merger of two of the three Bolognese branches of the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF): the Astronomical Observatory of Bologna and the Institute of space astrophysics and cosmic physics of Bologna.
The Observatory deals with research in the field of astronomy and astrophysics, the design and development of instrumentation for the study and exploration of the cosmos, and promotes the dissemination of scientific culture through educational and dissemination projects.
The two locations of the newly created structure are called “Plesso del Battiferro” (via Piero Gobetti 93/3) and “Research Area of ??the Cnr” (via Piero Gobetti 101). The administrative office is in the Plesso del Battiferro, in via Piero Gobetti 93/3.
The director of the new structure is Andrea Comastri, INAF research manager, former director of the Astronomical Observatory.
