The Roman Villa del Casale in Piazza Armerina, an Italian masterpiece included in the Unesco World Heritage List.
Villa del Casale is located in the municipality of Piazza Armerina, in the province of Enna. An authentic suggestive place surrounded by nature at the foot of Mount Mangone.
The Roman Villa del Casale in Piazza Armerina is one of the most studied and visited archaeological sites in the world. Its discovery is due to the archaeologist Gino Vinicio Gentili who in 1950 began the first excavation campaigns.
The restoration works have made it possible to bring to light the wonders of mosaic art contained within it. Therefore, we will deepen the history of this place to understand the cultural value of the famous Roman villa.
The entire building was built on top of the remains of a rural farm of the fourth century, while the current appearance is given by a series of architectural changes made between 320 and 370 AD. We have further confirmation if we analyze the historical context of Sicily at the era of the Emperor Constantine.
In fact, these rural areas were used to build luxury residences for the upper classes of imperial society. Another example of this type is the Villa del Tellaro near the city of Noto.
