The term "grangia" in ancient times meant a large warehouse used for the cultivation of wheat and seeds. In the Middle Ages the term assumes a wider meaning, in fact it indicated a complex of buildings and agricultural land managed by a monastic community.
Unfortunately, following the earthquake of 1783, the Grangia di Montauro was severely damaged. Of the large complex only a part of the external enclosure remains and, as it is located on private property, it can only be photographed from the village.
Calabria is a splendid land, rich in natural beauty and little-known works of art, but of immense value. I hope that the competent bodies will provide for the re-evaluation of the site and the restoration of this wonderful building.
