Linguaglossa station

Linguaglossa station is a railway station located at km 93 + 793 of the Circumetnea railway serving the town of the same name. The station was built at an altitude of 554 m a.s.l. and entered service on 1 July 1895 with the opening of the railway line from Lave di Castiglione to Giarre. On 30 September of the same year it was connected to Catania with the opening of the Bronte-Lave di Castiglione section.

The station was threatened by the eruption of Mount Etna in 1923 whose lavas stopped about 800 m earlier after having destroyed the previous station of Castiglione and a large stretch of railway. Linguaglossa station is connected to Giarre and Riposto by 5 trains all originating in Randazzo; four of them depart in coincidence with trains coming from Catania Borgo allowing, after interchange, the continuation of the circumnavigation of the volcano. In reverse, 5 trains leave for Randazzo. All services are carried out on weekdays only.

The 1975 railway timetable provided for the execution of 10 pairs of trains distributed throughout the day and for all days of the week; of these 2 couples were only working days. Three trains came from Catania while, in the opposite direction, there were 5 daily trips from Riposto that reached Catania.
